šŸ’ø My Money Green Flags

Last time, I shared some of my money red flags 🚩

But today I want to share my money green flags. If you agree with these - it’s a good sign you are going to do well financially.

ā‡ļø They call up, asking to cancel their bills

  • Most people don’t realise they can instantly lower the price of their monthly bills, simply by telling the company they want to leave.

  • If you phone up ANY internet, phone or energy company saying ā€œIt’s too expensiveā€, they’ll almost always offer you a cheaper price.

  • It costs these companies more to lose a customer than to gain a new one. So they will often offer you a better deal.

ā‡ļø They pay for ONLY one streaming service at a time

  • So many people today sign up for every streaming service (and there’s a lot of them right now!)

  • There’s Disney, Hulu, Netflix, Now TV, Sky, Paramount, Prime Video + tons more! šŸ˜…

  • By only subscribing to one per month, you can save TONS. Focus on watching all the good content on that one platform, then move on!

*bonus tip, use my budget calculator to manage your subscriptions!

ā‡ļø They use discount sites + apps

  • I rarely like to pay full price for anything. There’s NOTHING wrong in asking to use a discount (even on a date).

  • If you are a student discounts are easy. Use a site like Unidays or Student Beans. I used this all the time for Pizza Express dates in college. šŸ˜…

  • I’ve also used apps like Shopium to get cash back on groceries, and sites like Top Cash Back to get money off takeaways.

ā‡ļø They don’t just invest in Stocks

  • While it is important to put some of your money in low-risk index funds, don’t forget there are many other important investments for your life!

  • Investing equally in your health (gym memberships, improved diets, supplements) is crucial too!

  • What good is wealth in retirement if you're not healthy enough to enjoy it? Health is one of the foundations of life, so invest there too.

šŸ’ø Is Uni Still Worth The Cost?

I recently posted an episode of Red Flag Green Flag with a nice older man.

I asked him if this was a red or a green flag… 🚩

ā€œThey don’t want to go to uni, because they say it’s not worth the money anymoreā€

His response was very interesting…

ā€œRed Flag. All my kids went to Uni and had a fantastic time… all my kids had their lives changed.ā€

When I asked if uni helped their job prospects, he replied

ā€œOne of them yes, three of them no.ā€

The Reason Why I Didn’t Go To Uni (please read):

If you are anything like me, you may feel or have felt external pressure to go to Uni. Both my parents went to Oxford and Cambridge, so obviously growing up there was this almost unwritten expectation I would one day go…

And to be honest, I always did pretty well in exams. I was always in the top set in my school. All of my teachers and friends assumed University would be the next logical step.

About a year ago, I met the old headteacher of my school. She asked me

ā€œNoah, which Uni are you going to?ā€.

I replied…

ā€œOh I’m not going, my social media business has picked up, and right now I’m at the point where I can go full-time into thatā€.

Let me tell you. The shock and disgust on her face was incredible… 😳

The truth is - I was lucky….

My parents eased their pressure and expectations for me to attend university because the side hustle I started back in school turned out to be very successful.

I knew getting a degree wasn’t for me. No course sparked my interest at all. All I wanted to do was work on my own business. I wanted to take it to the next level.

After all…

Why should I get into tens of thousands in debt, just to please the people around me?

Why should I work for 3-4 years on a degree that I don’t even know for sure I want to study or let alone use in my life?

Back in the day, Uni was considered a free ride. The costs were little to none, and WAY fewer people went to Uni. A degree was worth WAY more to any potential employer.

But nowadays, unless you REALLY want to do a degree, have a parent willing to pay for you to do one, or need a degree for a job - I question how worth getting a degree is.

I have plenty of older friends, who went to Uni. They did some random degree like ancient history. But they didn’t have a plan. They did Uni because they felt they had to. When they left they either couldn't get a job or had to get a standard retail job.

If you have somewhere you want to be in life, there are many paths to get there.

The truth is, Uni is just one of many paths that can take you where you want to be (besides being a job like a Doctor or Lawyer).

Don’t sleep on the idea of learning a trade. Trade jobs will always be needed. Jobs like plumbers, carpenters, and builders are in massively low supply right now, because no one desires to have these jobs as much any more.

Furthermore, don’t sleep on the idea of starting your own business or side hustle. That’s what I did and it was the greatest move of my life. I truly feel I am years ahead of all of my ex-classmates because of the fact I started a side hustle.

It led me to become financially independent by 17 and be able to travel and live life on my terms. Something I could have only dreamt of, if I went to Uni.

I am considering teaching a cohort of people to start a side hustle, just like I did. Teaching you to build something that could potentially change your life. If this sounds like something you would be down to join, please join my waiting list - it’s quick!
