How to gift your friend Amazon Prime for free
👋 Hey guys - Noah here,
My mate just texted me moaning about paying £95 for Amazon Prime.
I told him to cancel it immediately.
Then I added him to my account for free. Legally, using a feature Amazon doesn't really advertise.
He now gets everything I get - Prime delivery, Prime Video, the lot - without paying a penny.
Here's exactly how this "secret" works...
The Feature Amazon Keeps Quiet
It's called Amazon Household.
It’s been around for years, but most people have never heard of it.
Basically, if you have Prime, you can add one other adult to your account completely free. They get their own login, their own account, but all your Prime benefits.
Amazon barely mentions it. Wonder why?
What Your Friend Actually Gets (For £0)
When you add someone to your Household, they get:
Full Prime delivery benefits
Next-day delivery on millions of items
Same-day delivery where available
Free release-date delivery on pre-orders
Prime Video access
Full streaming library
Their own profile and watch history
Can watch simultaneously on different devices
Prime Gaming perks
Free games every month
Twitch Prime benefits
In-game loot for popular titles
Early access deals
30-minute early access to Lightning Deals
Prime Day exclusive offers
The only thing they don't get? Prime Music. But let's be honest, everyone uses Spotify anyway.
How to Set This Up in 3 Minutes
Step 1: Go to Your Account Settings Sign into Amazon, hover over "Account & Lists", click "Your Account"
Step 2: Find Amazon Household Scroll down to "Shopping programs and rentals", click "Amazon Household"
Step 3: Add an Adult Click "Add Adult", enter their email or phone number
Step 4: They Accept the Invite They'll get an email/text. They click the link, sign in, done.
That's literally it. They now have Prime without paying.
The Catches (Because There Always Are Some)
Payment methods are shared You'll see each other's payment cards. Only add someone you properly trust - like close friends or family.
Some purchase history is visible You can see some (not all) of each other's orders. Again, trust is key.
Only one additional adult You can add kids too, but only one other adult account gets full benefits.
Both need to be in the same country Can't add your mate in Australia if you're in the UK.
Who This Works Perfectly For
Couples who live apart Why pay for two Prime accounts? Share one, save £95.
Best mates If you trust them enough to share a Netflix password, this is the same thing but better value.
Adult children and parents Your mum probably only uses Prime twice a year. Add her to yours.
Flatmates Living together anyway? Might as well share the benefits.
The Maths That Makes This Brilliant
Standard approach:
You pay: £95/year
Your mate pays: £95/year
Total cost: £190
Smart approach:
You pay: £95/year
Your mate pays: £0
Total saved: £95
Or if you're really clever, split it:
You each pay: £47.50/year
Both save: £47.50
That's less than £4 per month each for full Prime benefits.
Other "Household" Tricks Worth Knowing
Students get 6 months free If either of you is a student, get the free trial first, then set up Household. Double win.
You can switch who you share with Changed flatmates? You can remove someone and add someone new (with some limitations on frequency).
Kids accounts are separate You can add up to 4 kids accounts for parental controls without affecting your one adult slot.
Why Amazon Doesn't Advertise This
Simple maths: If everyone knew about this, Amazon would lose millions in subscriptions.
They're banking on you not knowing, being too lazy to set it up or not trusting anyone enough to share.
But for those of us who actually read the small print? Free Prime for our mates.
