Let's break down all the costs nobody warns you about:

The Basics

• Provisional licence: £34

• Theory test: £23

• Practical driving test: £62 (weekdays) or £75 (evenings/weekends)

• Total cost: £119 (For 1 weekday test)

Pro tip: Budget for at least 2-3 practical tests. I failed mine twice, and that's actually pretty common!

Driving Lessons

• Average cost per hour: £45

• DVSA recommended hours: 45 hours

• Total lesson costs: £2,025

Over TWO THOUSAND POUNDS just for lessons.

Pro tip: Consider buying learner insurance and learn with your parents to speed up your progress! You can find learner insurance for around £56/mo.

Your First Car

• Average first car: £3,000

• What I spent on my second car (Ford Fiesta): £4,300

• Average insurance depends on a lot of factors, but it’s around: £1,700 

I wouldn't splash too much cash on your first car. Why? Because the chances of a few scrapes and bumps are pretty high (speaking from experience😅).

Grand Total: £6,844

That's nearly the same as:

• A full year of university tuition

Is It Worth It?

Absolutely. Despite the costs, driving gives you freedom, job opportunities, and independence that's hard to put a price on.
